October 13, 2025We are excited to announce the DEMFAM Thursday Talks series Rethinking Parenthood in Central and Eastern Europe: Historical and Contemporary Perspectives. From October 2025 to March 2026, leading international scholars will explore both historical and contemporary questions on parenthood, family policy, and societal negotiations in Central and Eastern Europe.
The first talk will take place on Thursday, October 23, 2025, 4:00–5:15 PM (CEST), online:

Further talks will follow monthly until March 2026, addressing topics such as young parents with disabilities in 1980s Hungary, societal judgements of motherhood, the political instrumentalization of "family values" in postsocialist contexts, and shifting parental roles in Transcarpathia and the "empty nest."
