Pocket Guide for Academics Under Attack
May 18, 2026In June 2026, the LOEWE Research Focus “Entanglement of Anti-Feminisms: Gender, Democracy, and Authoritarianism in ‘Entangled Modernities’” (GenDem) at Marburg University welcomes its first international guests:
- Tutku Ayhan, Post-doctoral Fellow in International Security at Institut Barcelona Estudis Internationals (IBEI), and Magdalena Grabowska, Polish Academy of Science, Warsaw, will visit the GenDem project from 08.-21.6.26 on a Short-Term Scientific Mission that is co-funded by the EU COST Action CA 23149 “Antigender-Politics”. Both will contribute to an on-site workshop on “Anti-Feminism in Times of Crisis“ (Marburg University, 11.- 12.6.26) to identify different actor’s understandings and narratives of crisis, and to analyze their gendered socio-economic underpinnings as well as the purposes they serve in the context of antifeminist mobilizations. The collaboration will result in a joint blog post for ECPR’s Political Science Blog “The Loop: Gendering Democracy” in autumn 2026.
- From 21.-26.02.26, Prof. Nadje Al-Ali, Robert Family Professor of International Studies & Professor of Anthropology and Middle East Studies at Brown University, Pennsylvania/US, also will be on a visit in Marburg as a guest researcher of the GenDem project. Prof. Nadje Al-Ali will contribute to an on-site workshop "Critique of Western Exceptionalism" (24.06.26, Marburg University).
All guests will make individual contributions to a public lecture series organized by the GenDem project titled “Gendered Nations: Anti-Feminism and Nationalism, 1900-2026” (Thursday, 18-20:00 CET, online participation possible after registration with rvl2026-anmeldung@uni-marburg.de):
